Discover Our Unique Sailing Tours

Explore Salem Sound on a traditional gaff-rigged schooner!

Come Aboard Fame!

Fame is a full-scale replica of the first American privateer to set out during the War of 1812 and the first to make a capture. She seized over 20 prizes before being wrecked in the Bay of Fundy in 1814.

Launched in 2003 from the Burnham Boatyard in Essex, MA, our Fame cruises on the Salem Sound, where pirates, privateers, East Indiamen, and men of war have been making history for 400 years. Fame sails from Memorial Day through Halloween from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem, MA, as many as five times daily.

Best thing to do in Salem, and I'm Not Even a Tourist...

If you are visiting Salem from either far away or nearby, and it's sailing season (April - October), do not miss this experience! The schooner is beautiful, the crew are amazing, and give a meaningful, hands-on learning experience and history lesson with humor and grace.

Best Part Of My Trip!

My friend and I went on the boat cruise and had a great time. I would recommend this to anyone! The captains and crew were wonderful! They were engaging and friendly and made the trip fun for everyone. When we go back next year, we will take this boat cruise again!

Beautiful Schooner

This beautifully maintained schooner with its gracious and capable crew allowed us to have a wonderful excursion. From the land crew that took our reservations until we stepped back onto the wharf, we enjoyed our visit. I was allowed to steer the boat and thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson and the firing of the cannon. I would recommend this tour to anyone!

Brisk Winds, Warm Crew

My girlfriends and I had an amazing time ... The entire crew was very engaging and ensured that we were comfortable. This cruise provides an informational and beautiful opportunity to relax while still exploring. It was a great break from the nonstop walking while in Salem!
