A Perfect Venue for Any Private Occasion
Our traditional Essex-built schooner can carry you past lighthouses, old forts, pristine islands, and magnificent waterfront homes, so sit back and enjoy the scenery. Or if you’re in the mood, take the tiller or help the crew raise sails as we cruise through historic Salem Sound.
Day or night, enjoy cocktails and appetizers in a unique and attractive setting. Our downtown location makes it easy to combine your sail with lunch, dinner, or drinks at any one of a dozen great spots!
Charters can include snacks, drinks, or a full-fledged meal — it’s up to you. We can recommend a caterer, or you can hire your own. We’ve seen some delicious potluck dinners, too! All private charters and dockside events require a two-hour minimum and include the services of our captain, crew, and bartender.

We rarely pass up the chance to participate in a historical reenactment, an exciting race with other traditional sailing vessels, or a tall ships event. Among the upcoming events, we expect to participate in the Gloucester Schooner Race, held annually on Labor Day weekend, and the Provincetown Schooner Regatta, held annually the weekend after Labor Day.
Whenever Fame is scheduled to participate in a special event, we will inform the public and make tickets available on a first come, first served basis.
Cost: Since each event is unique, pricing will vary
Bring your team together for an experience that will both educate and entertain. Aboard Fame, you’ll find that not even the saltiest of old-time sailors can do it all himself. Sailing is all about teamwork — understanding what to do and when to do it, and knowing your role on the smoothly-running team that brings a vessel across the trackless ocean.
We offer consultant-led programs, but we can also work with you to design your own day at sea. Your group will learn how to navigate, handle the sails, and steer a course… all through a fun, hands-on curriculum that emphasizes the importance of teamwork and cooperation in any group endeavor.
Cost: Base rate for three hours plus $100 instructor fee
If you and your group are interested in a hands-on cruise, we’re delighted to provide professional instruction. Our experienced and capable crew will teach you to “hand, reef, and steer.” You’ll learn the rudiments of navigation in the same waters where Nathaniel Bowditch got his start. Once you’ve learned a chantey or two and can tie a bowline, a square knot, and a clove hitch, you’ll never look the same way as a sailing vessel again.
Cost: Base rate for two hours plus $100 instructor fee
