Sailing, Swimming, & Exploring!
Your child can spend a fun and educational week aboard the 70-foot schooner Fame, a replica of the famous privateer from the War of 1812. They learn how to sail a traditional wooden schooner and experience what life was like for the fishermen, pirates, traders, and privateers who built our North Shore. We explore a deserted island, swim in secluded coves, and sail all over beautiful Salem Sound.
Campers learn to raise, lower, and reef sails, trim sails to the wind, take the tiller on all points of sail, read charts and plot courses, tie essential knots, and identify all parts of the vessel. Older campers learn to handle dock lines and perform essential checks and maintenance. No previous sailing experience is required.
What to Expect...
Campers are divided into two groups or “watches” by age and ability and issued a color-coded t-shirt. If you want your camper to be placed in the same group as another camper or campers, please let us know at the time of registration.
Campers should always wear sunscreen and bring a windbreaker and hat, regardless of the forecast. They should bring a light snack and a bag lunch along with two hydrating drinks such as water or juice.
A camp brochure, available via mail or e-mail, can be sent on request. The brochure includes a registration form, which must be returned along with a $150 non-refundable deposit to secure a place in the camp. Once the deposit is received, we mail out a full registration packet. This must be completed and returned, along with any balance due, before the beginning of camp.
